At the heart of my counseling practice is a passion for mental health, well-being, and supporting individuals as they seek their authentic path through life. I have nearly twenty years of experience working with young people in the field of mental health in diverse and dynamic international school and university settings in the US, China, and Japan.
I utilize mindfulness practices, tenets of Positive Psychology, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques to support clients’ well-being and development of resiliency and healthy coping strategies as they experience life’s challenges and joys.
While much of my career has been focused on student and family counseling in school settings, I also have trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for people of all ages. I have deep expertise supporting mental health in the context of transitions such as moving to a new school, job, and/or country.
I was the Director of College Counseling at Leman Manhattan Preparatory School in New York City, playing a key role in launching their International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, as well as their university counseling program. I started my counseling career at Hunter College High School, where I spent six years supporting students achieving admission to the most selective colleges in the US. I have been the Counseling Team Leader/Coordinator at both Shanghai American School and Yokohama International School, helping to shape and develop their counseling programs to be among the most comprehensive and robust in the world. My career has always been focused on helping young people strive toward their dreams.
I have permanent certification in the state of New York in School Counseling and hold a BA in Psychology from Cal Poly Humboldt and a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from New York University. Read more about my qualifications here.
I grew up in California and spent much of my adult life in New York City before moving to Shanghai in 2014, Tokyo in 2017, and now splitting time between the US, Japan, and a touch of the digital nomad life. In my free time, I like to travel and I am always on the lookout for interesting art, architecture, culinary, and cultural experiences. I have been especially grateful to be able to spend so much time exploring the world over the last few years and enjoy photographing my experiences (all images on this site are from my travels in Japan). I live with my partner and two very sweet Japanese rescue cats.
